REALLY LAST POST

Hi! During the last few weeks we have been working with electricity, which is the force of moving electrons, and right now I will explain you some things that I learnt during this final term, my last term in technology.

First of all we are going to talk about the different ways to produce electrical energy. Like you should know these ways of producing energy are divided into nonrenewable and renewable ones, which are the ones that will last forever. Into the first group we can found nuclear energy, natural gas, oil and coal, between others. Nowadays the more used one is coal, but oil is nuclear energy is gaining power too (see graphic below). All of them are destroying our planet by the greenhouse effect, killing flora and fauna... For this reason, I think the best way of producing energy is throw renewable energy.

Renewable energy is the one that use natural resources to obtain energy. Inside this ecologic group we can find Tidal, Biomass, Geothermal, Solar, Wind and Hydraulic energy, all of them produced in different ways. The key is that in all this different methods, nonrenewable and renewable something is moving. Here I led you a video where all this information is well explained and detailed.

Nowadays there's a lot of innovations to do energy greener, one that cached my attention while I was searching information about this post was that some investigators are developing fuel cell technologies which will led us to transport vehicles only using oxygen and hydrogen and only releasing water and heat.  Another new which I have been interested in is Solar panels located in the space which sent the energy again to the Earth.

During this term we have also been working with electricity bill, so I have seen how we can make it smaller every month. The more obvious one is to change all our bulbs into leds, which consume only 5 W comparing to the normal bulbs which consume, mines of course every bulb is different, over than 220 W. If you have already done that you can also use this other tip: programe your water heater to be only be working when you use it, it seems difficult but is not and you will safe a lot of energy because is the electric device that more consume of the whole house.

A fun idea that you can also take is to make a solar oven. What's that? Well is simply  a insulated box which take all the heat of the sun and make your food. We did it and of course we had some problems, but when we found a good page where all was good explained it was so easy. We did it only with some carboard, plastic, black painting, glue and, finally, aluminium foil.

Now let's talk about technology, but in this case about the subject. Like you noticed during this year I have been doing this subject in English thanks to the British programe, and I really learnt a lot and we have been working with programes like kahoot, scratch, webnode, crocodile...

I think the thing I have enjoyed more are the Kahoots and maybe do the web page, however I also enjoyed the workshop unless the practic part. I think Kahoot is the programe I enjoyed more, in fact. In the other hand I didn't like the written project and of course the theoretic part, and personally the electric bill either. I think a thing that we have to improve is to do more work in the computer's room and bring the material to the workshop, but the teachers must change some things too, for example led us to bring our projects at home to finish them.

With all of that I want to finish this two years with this subject because next year I won't do it. Good bye everyone, good bye technology...

TRY ENGINERING!

Hi! How are you? The last day two students of the UIB (University of the Balearic Islands) which are studying engineering came to our high school to introduce us in the world of engineering by doing a project.

Maybe some of you don't know what really means be an engineer, so the dictionary say that an engineer is "a person trained and skilled in the design, construction, and use of engines or machines, or in any of various branches of engineering : a mechanical engineer; a civil engineer...". Maybe this definition is so complex, well an engineer is someone who fins a solution to a problem using the engineering.

During this project we worked in groups with the goal of build an estructure in teams. In my case my experience with my group was great, I felt confortable with my team and we worked together, in the way that everyone had a task but we helped each other. Of course every member worked and we tried to give the better of our self's!

Although we worked as a really team we didn't achieved our goal (make an estructure which purpose was to raise some centimeters a bag of tea through wind energy.) I think our problem was that we tried so different things and at the end we didn't have time because we changed the project so many times. If we had followed our first idea (do the blades with spoons and then redirige the wind) maybe it would have worked. We could improve it changing the shape of the blades because the movement that raised the bag of tea worked.

I think we worked like engineers because we searched the problem and we tried to solve it with the materials we had, but I feel so stress and without in off time. Definitely I won't be an engineer!

At the end of the project I enjoyed the activity and I will repeat it if i have the opportunity.

That's all for today, see you in the next post!
